All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. –2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
We invest in a variety of tools in order to fix and maintain the possessions God has entrusted to our care. It’s also wise to invest in instruments to support our spiritual growth, maturity, and walk with God. Which of the following tools are in your Christian’s toolbox? The Bible is the ultimate source of direction and guidance in your Christian life. A concordance allows you to look up and locate specific words found throughout the Bible. A commentary aids in expanded studies of the Bible by providing an explanation and interpretation of Scripture passages. A prayer journal helps you to remember and focus on requests and answers to prayer. A supply of praise and worship music as well as a testimony to share with others, should also be included.
In order to effectively use these tools, certain conditions need to be considered: a private place for prayer with God, a church where you worship and praise God, a few wise spiritual mentors, and a small group for fellowship. We need to be equipped with a submissive, teachable, forgiving heart that is willing to be transformed by the Holy Spirit. We each need a compassionate heart ready to serve God and others.
These tools and conditions will enable you to fulfill the wonderful plans God has blueprinted for you.
Pray that God will reveal to you what tools might be missing from your Christian toolbox.
Ask God to make known to you in what ways you can improve your fellowship with Him and others.
