Call on His Name

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name. –Philippians 2:9 NIV

When life starts to beat us down, we can immediately call on God. He has numerous names and all of them describe His faithful love and care for us. These are just a few of those names:

  • Jehovah-Jireh — “The Lord will provide” (Genesis 22:13-14)
  • Jehovah-Rapha — “The Lord who heals” (Exodus 15:26)
  • Jehovah-Nissi — “The Lord our banner” (Exodus 17:8-15)
  • Jehovah-Shalom — “The Lord our peace” (Judges 6:24)
  • Jehovah-Raah — “The Lord my shepherd” (Psalm 23:1)

When we are crying out to the Lord, we are saying that we need Him and can’t make it without Him. The enemy will try to keep us in the dark so he can oppress us. Nevertheless, we must not allow Satan to infiltrate our hearts or believe his lies about us. The devil was defeated by Christ on the Cross. He was no match for Jesus and was swiftly defeated when Jesus sacrificed Himself for each and every one of us. Jesus left His place of glory to come to earth for us. In our limited human minds, that statement is something we just can’t fully comprehend. Why would He want to leave a perfect place to come to such an imperfect world? The answer is quite simple: It’s love! Jesus loved us so much that He came to earth so that each one of us could have eternal life through Him. He brings deliverance and healing. When Satan attacks us, we must remember that “the name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10 (NIV). God’s name has power. Call on His name!
