Your Spiritual Heart

Guard your heart more than anything else, because the source of your life flows from it. –Proverbs 4:23 GW

The condition of your “spiritual heart” is important to God. It is wise that you seek God on a regular basis regarding the state of your heart. It is unwise to lean on your own assessment. Instead, allow the Holy Spirit to probe your heart to reveal its true condition. The following compares a stony heart versus a pliable heart bent toward God. A hard heart is: callous (Psalm 119:70); hardened (Ephesians 4:18); dark and confused (Romans 1:21); stubborn and unrepentant (Romans 2:5); and far from God (Mark 7:6). A humble heart: seeks and obeys God (Psalm 119:2,10); praises the Lord (Psalm 9:1); is grateful to God (Colossians 3:16); is pure and sincere (Matthew 5:8, Hebrews 10:22); and loves others deeply (1 Peter 1:22). Only God, your Great Physician, knows the true condition of your inner being. Out of love for you, He will correct you with His gentle hand of discipline. God uses this divine discipline to lead you to repentance and get you back on the right path of His choosing. As you seek God and allow His Holy Spirit to correct and direct your ways, you’ll walk in freedom and enjoy a healthier, robust life in Christ.

prayer focuses

God, I’m so thankful for Your hand of discipline upon my life. You love me too much to allow me to remain the same. Thank You!

Lord, examine my spiritual heart and make me aware of any hardness building up.
