For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this. –Esther 4:14 NIV
We all like to think that in some way we’ve left a mark on the world. At the end of our days on earth, we’d like to declare, “I was here and I made a difference.” This yearning has nothing to do with achieving great wealth or power. And, such achievements are not God’s measuring rod for success anyway. Billy Graham, a well-known preacher, had a profound impact on the world, leading millions of people to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Many might wonder what made Billy so effective in his mission. Was there something special in his DNA? Morrow and Frank Graham, his parents, were ordinary dairy farmers in North Carolina during the Depression era. But Billy’s mother was a praying woman, and his dad through a near-fatal accident in 1932 finally saw the light. His father started backing a series of all-day prayer meetings for a Christian businessman's gathering, providing his pasture for the events. During one of those meetings, Vernon Patterson prayed for the Lord to raise up someone from Charlotte to spread the gospel worldwide. In the following decade, Billy fulfilled that prayer. Just as Esther from the Old Testament and Reverend Graham in this past century, you were born with a mission as part of God’s grand plan.
Without you, there’s a piece of the puzzle missing. Find your purpose and move forward in it. You were born for such a time as this.
Father, help me to always be willing to be a part of Your plan, no matter how large or small.
Father, let my life be the reflection of Your love to the world.
