And the Lord said, “I will wait until you return.” –Judges 6:18 NIV
God told Gideon to go to the camp of Midian and save the Israelites from the oppressive hand of the Midianites. He promised Gideon that He would be with him and that He would strike the enemy down. But Gideon asked for a sign to be sure that it was God talking to him. He also pleaded with the Lord to wait and not go away until he prepared an offering for Him. Did God have to prove that He was who He said He was? Did He have to give Gideon a sign? Of course, the Lord didn’t need to, but He did. And the Lord waited for him. God is faithful to us, and He will wait for us. He is loving, gentle, tender, merciful, and above all patient. We must never forget that the love of God is eternal. He does not look at the color of our skin, our outer beauty, or any prestigious position we may hold. He looks not at our mistakes, nor at our past failures and flaws. With an unconditional heart, God waits for us to come to Him just as we are, in all of our brokenness. There is no pushing, demanding, or reprimanding as we sense the gentle prompting by the Holy Spirit and the Lord’s unconditional love. So, God waits. He waits oh so tenderly until we come with all of our cares and all the excess baggage that we have been towing around. My friend, He is waiting for you at the foot of the cross with arms wide open. So come.
Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness and tender mercies every day.
Lord Jesus, thank You for waiting for me at the cross with arms wide open as I come, just as I am.
