He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city. –Proverbs 16:32 NKJV
When our plans go awry, do we get upset and allow emotions to control our behavior? Do we tend to hold others accountable for our own mistakes, as well as for the challenges we are facing that are outside of our control? The desire to blame others for our problems seems to be ingrained in us from the beginning—just as Adam and Eve blamed Satan and each other for their mistakes in the Garden of Eden. We must stop blaming others. Instead, we should pause and pray for spiritual guidance from the Holy Spirit. Many of our battles are within. And, fortunately, we are not without help. As it says in Luke 17:21 (NKJV), “the kingdom of God is within you.” We need to allow the Lord to conquer the battles within us. There are layers to these battles, and the Holy Spirit will unravel them if we trust in Him. When we get right on the inside, we get right on the outside. We need to be open to the Lord’s help. A.W. Tozer in his book The Pursuit of God writes, “Why do some persons ‘find’ God in a way that others do not? The one vital quality which they have in common was spiritual receptivity. Something in them was open to heaven, something which urged them Godward.” Our spirits hear God when we quiet our minds enough to meditate on Him.
Lord, help me to turn to You as I face any challenges today.
Thank You, Lord, for Your help and presence in my life.
