The Deadly Killer

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. –2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV

What’s the single most destructive, debilitating, crippling force on earth? It’s more deadly than any single disease because it causes more physical ailments than all the other diseases combined. It robs us of time, energy, health, joy, fulfillment, and even life itself. It keeps us bound as if in shackles; it imprisons us. It’s sneaky, cunning, generational, and hides within the realm of our comfort zone. It is given cute names to try to explain it scientifically, medically, and emotionally while making this force seem more acceptable. What is this force? Fear. Fear causes torment and anxiety attacks, and it even changes the molecular structure of the body. Here’s the kicker though, God has NOT given us a spirit of fear. He never intended for our nervous system to be racked by adrenaline being dumped into it. Fear is for our protection, not our demise. Rational fear keeps us from abusing things, like the knowledge that we should be careful with electricity and water. Irrational fear keeps us from using it all together. God HAS given us a sound mind, love, and power. Let us ask God to help us so that we might be set free from fear. May today be the day we are released from tormenting fears. He whom the Lord sets free is free indeed.

prayer focuses

God, I recognize that fear comes from Satan, and I refuse to let it control me.

Father, please give me the strength to fight fear and keep it from controlling me! I need Your help to do so!
