Come!

So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid… –Matthew 14:29-30 NKJV

In this portion of Scripture, Jesus had come down from the mountain after a time of solitude and prayer. The disciples were already sailing to the other side of the sea from where Jesus had been preaching. So, Jesus began walking across the water to get to the boat. As He approached the vessel, it was already in the middle of the sea, being tossed by the wind and waves.

Peter, seeing Jesus in the distance, asked the Lord to command him to walk on the water, too. When Jesus directed him to come, Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Him. But when he took his eyes off of the Lord and focused on the storm and on the magnitude of the waves, he began to sink. Peter, in fear, called out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus immediately stretched out His hand and caught him, placing him safely back into the boat.

If you are currently focused on a storm in your life and feel as though you are drowning in helplessness and despair, reach out to Jesus. He is waiting for you to call out to Him for help. Jesus will stretch out His powerful hand and lift you out of your troubled waters.

Lord, help me to stay focused on You always as I go through the storms of life.

Holy Spirit, give me the power, strength, and wisdom to be an overcomer in times of trouble.
