Flood Assurance

So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west and His glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him. –Isaiah 59:19 KJV

Depending upon the flood zone in which we live, we are strongly encouraged to purchase flood insurance. Floods can be highly unpredictable, often with little or no warning. In John 16:33, Jesus tells us to not be surprised when we go through storms in life. He warns us that tough times are ahead much like a weather forecaster warns us of approaching storms. In this world, we will have trouble. In this passage, Jesus encourages us by reminding us that He has overcome the world, and we need not fear. But it’s up to us to be prepared. We often go through seasons in life where it seems as though anything that can go wrong, does. It may, at times, feel as though one disaster has barely passed when another comes right behind it. It can feel as if we are being overwhelmed by a flood of despair. But the Lord assures us that He has these times covered. Isaiah 59:19 promises us that when the enemy comes in like a flood, God will come charging in with His battle banner (or standard) raised high so that all will recognize His might. The weapons the enemy uses are always superseded by the measure of God’s grace to overpower them. If you are in the midst of rising flood waters, look up. Your salvation is on its way. The Lord has you covered.

prayer focuses

Father, help me to rest in You, just as Jesus did while sleeping in the back of the boat as the storm was raging.

Lord, help me to remember that the enemy will never overpower You, and that You will never forsake me.
