Watch! Listen! It’s Awesome.

Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance. –Proverbs 1:5 NIV

It’s amazing what we can learn when we watch and listen. An older man was seen and overheard having a heart-to-heart conversation with a much younger man. He was sharing a time in his life when he had lost his job. Supporting his two kids, he was within a month of losing everything. He described his fears and stresses, explaining how he had taken any job he could find to provide for his family. The younger man expressed uncertainty about taking just any job, to which the older man replied, “Son, it’s not about you. It’s about your family.” This older man recognized that life is about relationships; we all long to be connected with others. The Lord understood this, stating in Genesis 2:18 (NIV), “It is not good for the man to be alone.” This desire for family comes from our heavenly Father, who created us to be in a relationship with Him. As we watch and listen to those around us throughout the day, we will discover more of God’s truths in ways that might not seem obvious at first.
