Awe and Wonder – Part 1

God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. –Genesis 1:16 NIV

Let’s take a minute today for some awe and wonder. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, contains an estimated one billion stars. And there are an estimated 100 billion galaxies! Multiply 1 billion stars by 100 billion galaxies and you reach a number so vast that it’s hard to grasp how large that number really is. The closest analogy is that it equals all the grains of sand on all the seashores on the earth. How did all those stars come to be? Genesis 1:16 says, “…He [God] also made the stars.” The way it is stated almost feels like an “I threw those in as freebies.” Can you imagine that? Can you imagine a power so creative that He could put all those galaxies so far out there that they wouldn’t even be discovered until the 20th and 21st centuries? With that in mind, I invite you to take a moment to look at the sky and think about the God who created the sun, moon, and stars and put them in place. Imagine a universe so vast that there are as many stars as there are grains of sand, and then tell this incredible Creator how absolutely amazing He is.
