Never Go It Alone

1 Samuel 18:1; Galatians 6:2; Proverbs 27:17

"After David had finished talking with Saul, he met Jonathan, the king’s son. There was an immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David." - 1 Samuel 18:1 (NLT) Ever had a friend who just "gets" you? Someone you can laugh with, cry with, and who stands by you no matter what? That's the kind of friendship David and Jonathan had—a bond that was as genuine as it gets. Their relationship has been referred to as a covenant relationship. It’s important to note that a covenant relationship is not the same as a co-dependent relationship. One is sourced by God and the other is one where the other person becomes your source. It’s one thing to be a resource for someone, but there is only one source for all of us, His name is Jesus. Imagine that you're not alone in your struggles. Your friend listens when you pour out your heart, and you do the same for them. Life's burdens suddenly feel lighter when shared. That's the beauty of having a real friend. We all need that kind of support, don't we? The Bible reminds us to share our challenges because it makes the load easier to bear. In Galatians 6:2 “Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ." A good friend is supposed to be like a mirror towards you reflecting God's love and faithfulness. They push you to be better, encouraging you to grow in faith and kindness. "As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend." Proverbs 27:17. Friends help us stay sharp, reminding us of God's grace and teaching us to forgive and love, just as He does. So, here's your reminder: cherish your friends. Celebrate the people who love you for who you are, flaws and all. In those friendships, understand that you are experiencing God's daily blessings for your life, His love shines through the care and support of the people around you. Today, reach out to a friend like that and let them know how much you appreciate them. If you don’t have a friend like this, today we are going to pray and ask God to add one to your life so that you don’t have to “Go it Alone.”

Take a moment to think about your friendships. Do you have a friend who truly understands you, supports you, and shares your joys and sorrows? How has this friendship impacted your life and faith journey? Now consider your role as a friend. Are you being a mirror reflecting God's love and grace to your friends? How can you encourage and support your friends in their faith and personal growth?

prayer focuses

Lord, thank You for the people You have placed in my life. I am grateful for the friends who mirror Your love. If there are any of my friends who need encouragement today, would you place them on my heart and help me to be a good friend to them. If I lack a friend like David had in Jonathan, help me to remove the friendships that draw me away from you and may you bless me with someone who, like Jonathan, will stand by me and share in my faith journey. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
