Incoming!

Though they plot evil against you and devise wicked schemes, they cannot succeed. You will make them turn their backs when you aim at them with a drawn bow. –Psalm‬ 21:11-13

Have you ever felt helpless to prevent incoming thoughts of anxiety, hurtful memories, or other thoughts that take your mind captive and bring you into a state of discontent? The Patriot missile is an important component of the defense system of the United States Army. An incoming enemy missile can be fifty miles away when the Patriot radar locks onto it. It is designed to detect, identify, and destroy. It doesn’t just shoot randomly into the sky hoping for the best—it is always ready to activate specifically where it is intended to operate. Jesus says our enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). He also says in Ephesians 6:12 that we don’t fight against enemies of flesh and blood but against rulers of the darkness. So even though we can’t always control the thoughts that cross our minds, we can begin to recognize them as enemy warfare and send forth a missile loaded with the Word of God to stop the harmful thoughts from taking root in our minds. Search the Scriptures for verses that encourage or contain promises. Have your arsenal ready to fire back by writing them down or highlighting them in your phone. The Word will win!

prayer focuses

Thank You, Lord, that You gave us Your word. Help our minds detect when wandering thoughts are from You and when they are from the enemy.

Come Holy Spirit—only by spending time in Your presence can we know Your voice by leaning in and listening to it.
