The Biggest Waste of Time

So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. –1 Peter 5:6-7 NLT

Worry is a lot like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it won’t get you anywhere. Today we live in a world filled with uncertainties which give us opportunities to worry at every turn. Yet, all the worrying in the world won’t change a thing. I can remember, as a single mom, walking the floors at night, fretting about how I was going to pay my bills. All I ever gained from that activity was a load of many sleepless nights. The bills were always paid on time, and we never went hungry. I had wasted precious time worrying needlessly. If only I’d known then what I know now, I could have experienced much greater joy. Today, I still have many concerns, but I refuse to waste the time I have left on earth worrying. Instead, I cast my cares upon the Lord, knowing that He loves and cares for us all. When thoughts arise that lead to worry, we must remind ourselves that we are blessed with insurance. When we are in a car accident, the other driver’s insurance doesn’t call us to settle, they call our insurance company, our advocate. We too have an advocate, the Lord Jesus. So, we need to stop worrying and cast our cares on Him, telling our cares to go talk to our advocate, Jesus.

prayer focuses

Father, help me to always trust You with my cares, for I know that no matter what comes, You are always there.

Father, I know that the biggest problems are merely opportunities for the biggest miracles. Help me to stay strong in my faith and to trust in You.
