Going Down the Wrong Path

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. –Psalm 16:11 NIV

Poor decisions can cause us to go down the wrong path before we even realize it. The direction we follow determines our destination—even if we did not intend to travel that path. Our actions should follow the direction that leads us to a successful future, but unfortunately, that is often not the case. Lack of judgment can put us on the path to destruction. Our focus on the moment can make us lose sight of the consequences ahead. We need grace, faith, and mercy to lead us on the right path. In addition, we need to guard our hearts and keep our decisions from causing emotional or spiritual separation from God. Once we drift away from godly principles, it is easy to continue on that path. We don’t need a detailed map to traverse an errant path. However, we do not have to continue down that path forever. What we need is God’s Word to guide us. He wants us to be the path that leads to peace and blessings. Psalm 23:3 (NIV) says, “He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” God does not want your path to be destructive. Claim Proverbs 8:20 (NIV), “I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice.” This is the path planned for you. Don’t be detoured; keep your eyes on Him.
