Doing What You Are Told

It’s the same with you. When you’ve done everything expected of you, be matter-of-fact and say, “The work is done. What we were told to do, we did.” –Luke 17:10 MSG

When we are young, we are expected to do what we are told to do by our parents or guardians. In adulthood, life doesn’t change too much. We are still expected to do what we are told by our bosses and those in positions of authority over us. This includes God. Should we not follow what He tells us in His Word? God’s Word is our personal message from Him. Ultimately, we should use His Word as a guideline of how we should treat others, love our family members, and grow in our relationship with God. It gives us truths about how to live on earth, while also guiding us to our eternal home in Heaven. Basically, reading the Bible helps us figure out how we should be living each day. Even when life is hard, we can find direction in His Word. Jesus tells us in John 16:32-33 (MSG) that we will have trouble: “I’ve told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.” God cares about us and wants us to seek His Word and live by it.

God, thank You for giving me Your Word as a guidebook on how I should live my life and treat others.

God, please help me to listen and obey when You are telling me to do something.
