A Fractal Life

For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people. –1 Corinthians 14:33 NIV

Order is necessary. Without order we wouldn’t be able to read these words, for they’d just be gibberish. A beautiful symphony would just be random notes, military troops would have no strategy, and football teams would have no plays. Order makes things work.

We crave order. But often, our lives can only be described as fractal, organized chaos. At such times, we may not realize that there are things we can’t see going on behind these infinitely complex scenes. Events that appear totally unrelated may actually be intertwined to accomplish God’s purpose.

There are benefits, at times, to chaos as it teaches us to wait, trust, and grow. As Christians, we are assured that God is watching over us and that He can use not only our triumphs but our mistakes and failures for our benefit. “In all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28 NIV). Our Heavenly Father will, in time, restore order to our lives.

Thank the Lord that even in times of chaos, He will make your pathways straight.

Pray that the Lord will show you His hand even in the midst of troubles.
