Armor of God – Part 2

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist... –Ephesians 6:14 NIV

The apostle Paul instructs you to put on the belt of truth. The belt was an essential piece of protective equipment for Roman soldiers. It contained the scabbard, providing a place to keep the sword that needed to be ready for use at all times. Without the sword readily at hand, battles were lost. Are you wearing the belt, keeping the sword (God’s Word) constantly at your side throughout the day? Without the belt, you must continuously be laying down your sword, leaving you unprepared when the enemy suddenly strikes. Each time you are hurt, annoyed, or challenged in your faith, it is vital to have God’s Word ready to read or recite. As you spend time in God’s Word each day, you are keeping the belt of truth securely fastened. With the belt firmly in place, biblical truths can readily defend you as you combat the enemy. Being steeped in God’s Word, you will not only be equipped to avoid sin, you will also be more effective in your Christian walk. “…Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have…” (1 Peter 3:15 NIV).

Dear Lord, help me to remember to use Your Word moment by moment to resist the temptation to sin.

Lord, help me to readily use Your Holy Scriptures to explain the hope that we have in You to others.
