Day 205: Bible Duo – Esther and Mordecai

Mordecai had a cousin named Hadassah, whom he had brought up because she had neither father nor mother. This young woman, who was also known as Esther…. –Esther 2:7 NIV

Held captive and living under a foreign king, this biblical duo of Mordecai and his young cousin, Esther, were instrumental in saving the entire nation of Israel. Had it not been for the compassion of Mordecai toward Esther, she herself would not have survived the loss of both of her parents. Torn from the comfort and security of Mordecai’s watch, she is then thrust into a competition for the title of queen. Mordecai instructs her to conceal her true identity until the right time, but Esther knew her bloodline. She knew who she was and whose she was. She was reminded of this when Mordecai sent her this message, “If you persist in staying silent at a time like this, help and deliverance will arrive for the Jews from someplace else; but you and your family will be wiped out. Who knows? Maybe you were made queen for just such a time as this” (Esther 4:14 MSG).Even though she did not know what the outcome would be, Esther faced fear. What special time are we made for? Are we afraid to stand? Jesus also came from royalty, yet He gave up His right to live so that we can have eternal life.

prayer focuses

Ask God for whom you need to stand in the gap.

Pray for a plan to help them and not rely merely on your own thinking. Holy Spirit, help us to prepare our hearts to go before the King.
