For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. –Romans 8:29 NLT
Responsible…driven…achiever…are words that are frequently applied to a firstborn child. In movies and television programs, firstborn children are typically shown as the ultimate protectors, going to great lengths to care for, guard, and even defend their younger siblings.Amazingly, we all have a firstborn Big Brother in real life! But, He’s a firstborn like no other! He’s our God-given, ultimate Big Brother, AND He’s perfect—but not in an annoying way. He’s always around, looking out for us, ready to help out. He’s always loving and kind, never tormenting or motivated by a superior attitude. But, why is He the ultimate? He figuratively threw Himself under the bus, or He flung Himself on top of the grenade, to save us.In reality, He hung on a cross, giving Himself in the ultimate sibling sacrifice to protect us and ensure our future well-being! He loves us so much that He died for both you and me.It is hard to imagine that kind of love in real life! Praise to the Lord, our amazing big brother! See Mark 15:15 to Mark 16:20 to read more about Jesus’ sacrifice.
Thank You, dear Father, for sending us Your Son—our Big Brother and Lord—Jesus.
Thank You, dear Lord Jesus, for giving Your life in order to save me for eternity.
