Celebrate Your Mother

My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honor around your neck. –Proverbs 1:8-9 NLT

Mothers can really touch and change our lives. They are a gift and should be honored. If you were blessed with a loving, devoted mom, you probably look forward to celebrating this day with joy. However, not everyone has this type of relationship with their mother—a person who cherished you and who guided you through the years. Is there another person who acted as a mother figure in your life? Maybe you have lost your mom, and it certainly is a sad day to celebrate without her. However, her love is always in your heart. Even in your deepest sorrow, that is something that can bring you peace.

There are many happy times in motherhood but also many times of deep pain. It is not easy raising a child, especially in our world today. Take time today to thank the mothers and mother figures in your life for all the love and work they put into you, remembering the times you laughed along with enduring the worst of times.

Whether it is a special mom, someone who is like a mom to you, or a mom that has passed, remember her today. A mother’s love is certainly something to thank God for. Grief and joy can hold hands, even on Mother’s Day.

If Mother’s Day is hard for you, Jesus promises to help carry all your pain. Bring your pain to Him.

If Mother’s Day is a blessing for you, praise God for your mom.
