Comparison or Contentment

…I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. –Philippians 4:12 NIV

Look at Eve. She was content with all God provided in the garden until the serpent pointed out what she did not have. She had to have it!It’s human nature to want what we don’t have. From his writings, we know the apostle Paul learned the secret of being content in all circumstances. Note that he LEARNED it; contentment doesn’t come naturally and it doesn’t supernaturally occur when we commit our lives to Christ. Study Paul’s walk—he never walked alone. It was said that Paul was “captivated” by Jesus Christ; his walk with Him was intimate, daily, and purposeful. How about you? When your life is transformed by a merciful God, you must center everything on your relationship with Him. God has promised to meet all of your needs, but He promises nothing when it comes to your “greeds.” The inner peace that Paul had comes when you truly believe that a great and powerful God who loves you is in control of ALL your circumstances.
