Crossing Over

And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people crossed over. The king himself also crossed over the Brook Kidron, and all the people crossed over toward the way of the wilderness. –2 Samuel 15:23 NKJV

In the Old Testament story found in 2 Samuel 15, King David is crossing through the Kidron Valley fleeing for his life. Absalom, his own son, has betrayed him and is plotting to kill him so he will become the king. Absalom is quite confident of his plan. But God intervenes, and David’s life is spared. The plot is uncovered, and Absalom is killed in his pursuit of David. Hundreds of years later, King Jesus crosses through this same Kidron Valley on His last visit to Gethsemane (John 18:1). He too is about to be betrayed by those He loves. His enemies have plotted to crucify the King of kings. Satan thinks he has won the title of king of the world; instead, he is known as the prince of darkness. In Hebrew, the word “kidron” means “ashy dark color. ”Symbolically, Jesus, through His sacrificial death on the Cross, has “crossed over” the darkness of death and the ashes of our earthly bodies. “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life” (John 5:24 NIV). Jesus is King!

prayer focuses

Thank You, God, for sending Jesus to us.

He defeated satan so we can have life breathed into our dead dust. Holy Spirit, defeat and expose the plans of the enemy so no weapon or plot formed against us shall stand.
