Different Eyes

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. –1 John 3:1 ESV

We’ve all seen ourselves through the eyes of parents, teachers, and friends. But, are those impressions true? Do those words spoken over us by others define us? And, is what we believe to be true about ourselves really who we are? When parents repeatedly call their young children clumsy, those children are likely to grow up believing they’re clumsy. They believe it because that’s what someone said they were. It is not who they are, yet they assume that identity. But what if they saw themselves differently? What if instead of seeing themselves through the eyes of others, they saw themselves through the eyes of God’s heart?First Corinthians 6:20 (NIV) says, “God bought you with a great price. So, honor God with your body.” We are so valuable to God that He paid the highest price to ransom us. God’s love for us is so great that our minds can’t begin to wrap around everything that His love for us includes. He promises in Romans 8:39 that nothing can ever separate us from His love.Through the eyes of God’s heart, we can truly see who we are. We are the cherished children of God.
