Don't Lose Your Fizz

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. –Romans 12:11 NIV

Some say “soda.” Some say “pop.” What do you call the carbonated beverage? Depending on what part of the country you grew up in, you will undoubtingly have a ready answer. Pop used to come in glass bottles; there were no plastic bottles or cans. Eventually, glass bottles were phased out. Once the soda was distributed in cans and plastic bottles, it never tasted the same. It would quickly become flat with all of the fizz gone. It just didn’t taste like it was supposed to.

When we receive salvation and start our walk with Jesus, we’re bubbling with excitement and zeal. Jesus is all we can talk about. But, later, if we become complacent and comfortable, we might begin to lose our zeal. Like a flat can of pop, we’ve lost our fizz. We’re told in 2 Timothy 1:6 (NKJV) to “stir up the gift of God which is in you.” We must never go flat. Rather, we should continue to explode with zeal for the Lord, keeping our spiritual fizz bubbling and sparkling, so all can see Jesus.

prayer focuses

Father, forgive me for getting complacent in my faith. Fan the flame of Your Holy Spirit within me to burn brightly for You.

Holy Spirit, help me to show the world that circumstances can’t steal my joy.
