In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. –Proverbs 16:9 NIV
As told in 2 Samuel 7, King David was living in his palace during a time of rest from his enemies. David felt guilty that he lived in luxury while the Ark of God was in a tent. So, David decided that he should build a permanent place for the Ark to reside. David shared his plan with Nathan the prophet and was encouraged when Nathan told him that he knew God was with David. However, there was one problem: God didn’t tell David to build a house for the Ark. God came to Nathan in a vision and gave him a message for King David. God wanted one of King David’s sons to build the temple, not David. God’s plan was different from David’s. This taught him a valuable lesson. We may have the best intentions at times with our plans. However, if we listen to God’s voice, His plan might be very different from what we expected to be the final outcome. God’s correction is an opportunity for growing closer to Him. Trusting God and allowing Him to guide our decisions is the perfect plan. We should always prayerfully seek the Lord and His perfect will for our lives.
Father, thank You for Your guidance.
Please forgive me for going ahead of Your plans at times. Holy Spirit, help me know when to stop and listen for Your direction.
