Family Disappointments

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. –Psalm 34:18 NLT

Life is full of disappointments. And those whom we are closest to can sometimes cause the deepest hurt, leading us to experience acute depression or anger. We may reach out to someone close, hoping for guidance; but the person’s advice may fall short. We may turn to the Lord in prayer and still be unable to get past the pain. We have been encouraged to leave our disappointments at the foot of the Cross, and we read Scripture verses about forgiveness; yet, we are still often overwhelmed, feeling paralyzed.

At such times, it is vital to place the rejection and pain in God’s hands, allowing Him to work it out—one day at a time. We actually have a choice whether or not to stay in a broken condition. The Lord is the only One whom we can depend on to help us through. God knows that we are unable to humanly understand His purposes. We can’t see the final outcome, but He can. God can restore what is broken—all we need is faith.
