Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. –Ephesians 2:19-22 NIV
The day of our physical birth, we become part of a biological clan. When you hear or think of the word “family,” what comes to mind—mother, father, siblings, home, love, belonging, rivalry, heartache, dysfunction? Regardless of what family unit we come from, we’re separated from God from the very start of our existence, as though we’re strangers to Him and foreigners to Heaven. However, this changes the day we individually acknowledge, accept, and receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior. Through the blood of Jesus, you are brought near to God instead of being separated from Him.Once rebirth and adoption take place, we are immediately spiritually born into God’s family. We become part of God’s family, citizens of Heaven, and are members of His household. However, God’s house is not simply a building like many mistakenly think, but rather a group of people being drawn, called, and joined together by the Spirit of God. With Jesus being the Chief Cornerstone of this spiritual building being built by God, we are strategically positioned within this dwelling place of God.Think of it this way. A mosaic work of art is built and created with many different kinds and shapes of rocks, gems, glass, and other substances. Once all the fragmented pieces are hand-fashioned together in a design, they form a beautiful masterpiece. No one single piece makes it complete; it’s a combination of all the broken pieces. Spiritually speaking, God is creating a beautiful, living mosaic masterpiece that includes all members of God’s family who believe in the precious Cornerstone who is Jesus Christ Himself. No matter your size, color, culture, or family origin, you are a precious, vital, important person in God’s family of believers. God wants you to embrace and enjoy your sisters and brothers in Christ who are also part of God’s family and His mosaic masterpiece.
Thank God that you were chosen to be part of His grand story.
