He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly. –Acts 10:2 NIV
At an early age, certain beliefs and behaviors are instilled in us. This is how we develop our values, morals, and attitudes toward others. When examples of putting others first is witnessed, this becomes part of a response to imitate. Characteristics such as generosity, serving others, compassion, and kindness become the norm. Such behavior is what a Christlike life should resemble. When people ask Jesus into their heart as Lord and Savior, love and good deeds become inevitable. Good deeds to God are a ministry. Matthew 5:16 (NIV) tells us, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. ”It is not all about us. It should be about serving and helping others. First Corinthians 10:24 (NIV) says, “No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.” That is exactly what Jesus did. Christ emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant. The Lord tells us that the first will be last, and the last will be first. When you do a good deed, it warms your own heart; and often you receive a blessing as well.
