Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. -Philippians 3:13 NIV
Why let something that is temporary control you forever? Bad things happen to good people, but they don?t have to determine who you are. I know a woman who experienced a traumatic past, and while it only lasted a short while, fifty years later it still haunts her, controls her, and has become who she is. Yes, it was unfair! Yes, it was tragic! However, it was, it no longer is. A short-term experience turned into a lifetime of pain.Learning to let go, being willing to forgive, and being determined not to be a victim is the pathway to a healthy life. We can learn to celebrate what is, instead of lament what was. Every day is a new day, and we can choose to see it in one of two ways. We can see a day full of possibilities or a day full of problems. Faith sees the possibilities, but fear sees the problems. When we begin to see problems as an opportunity for a miracle, we develop an expectation of good and not bad. Being a Christian doesn?t mean that we never have problems, but it does mean that the Problem Solver has everything under control. He?s got this.
Christ forgave our past, lives in the present, and guarantees our future.
Ask Him to help you let go of the past. Father, please help me focus on seeing problems as an opportunity for a miracle.
