His Breath in Your Lungs

And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” –John 20:22 NIV

Did you know that the Hebrew word for Spirit can also be translated “breath?” So how’s this for a thought: when you received the Holy Spirit—after having committed your life to the lordship of Jesus—you received His very Breath!I’ll bet you’d never thought in those terms before! If you are born again, His very BREATH fills not only your lungs but your entire being. Think about that the next time you’re tempted to question your authority in the spiritual realm. Think about that the next time the enemy of your soul discourages you from praying or speaking in His name.If His breath fills your lungs, and the rest of your being by extension, then you are no longer the person you once were. You are now a supernatural being—albeit one who still lives in an earthly, physical body. You have access to the Spirit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (see Galatians 5:22-23). You have access to the Spirit who reveals things you could never know on your own. You have access to the Spirit’s healing power. You are a changed, transformed person. Changed by the ultimate Transformer Himself—Jesus of Nazareth—by the power of His Spirit.
