This, then, is how you should pray…. –Matthew 6:9 NIV
Do you struggle with prayer, wondering how to converse with God? Should I close my eyes, kneel by my bed, fold my hands, or raise them high? We tend to make it complicated, even looking to those who seem “spiritual” for clues, or some secret ritual that makes God notice. Consider a conversation with your best friends or new love. It happens as naturally as breathing. You can’t wait to see them and tell them about your day. You want to linger and hear what they have to say. Even when the conversation has to take an uncomfortable turn, to seek or ask forgiveness, you are compelled to go there, you can’t rest until you make it right with them. That’s how your Father in Heaven wants you to approach Him. You are promised that if you draw near to God, He will draw near to you (James 4:8). There is no secret; just talk to Him. The more you know Him, the easier it is to pray.
Ask God to reveal what prevents you from drawing near to Him.
Seek to remove that barrier by lifting it up to God. In doing that, the barrier becomes the bridge.
