It’s Already Done

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. –John 16:33 ESV

Great battles have been fought, and wars have been waged, but none are as great as the battle for the mind. What we dwell on determines where our battles will take us. We can focus on the worst case scenario and be overwhelmed with fear, or we can trust the word of faith that gives peace. Isaiah 26:3-4 (NKJV) says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever…” And, Isaiah 26:12 (NKJV) says, “Lord you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.” When we’re in the midst of a battle, we need to reflect back on past victories which prove our Lord’s steadfast love. The battle has already been won, the victory is ours, and our Heavenly Father will keep our minds on His perfect peace as we rest in Him. Exodus 14:14 (NIV) says it simply, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” We must stop spending sleepless nights agonizing over our battles; but instead, we need to rest in God’s love. Jesus reassured us in John 16:33 (NIV), “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Be encouraged, putting your trust in the Lord. He has already declared victory.
