Joy? Yes, Please

You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound. In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. –Psalm 4:7-8 ESV

No matter how devoted you are to your Father and how much you love Him, you may sometimes fall prey to depression and despair. When you pray for weeks, months, or even years for something you know is directly aligned with His will for you or someone you love and don’t see a glint of change, it’s easy to lose hope and wonder why your prayers aren’t being answered. These are the times when it’s essential to shift your focus, turning your eyes from your circumstances and fixing them on your mighty and loving God. He gives you what you need moment by moment, and you can experience joy no matter what you’re enduring. Joy is ALWAYS available to you. You need only ask. To live with joy in spite of everything is a choice, and sometimes you have to choose it daily or even hourly. Make a conscious decision to praise God despite your feelings of discouragement. Praising God when everything is going your way is easy. Praising Him when everything is falling apart? That’s the best kind of worship—true and heartfelt.
