Treasures in the Sand…

Walking along the shore at the beach, we may miss that perfect shell nestled in the sand. Its unique colors and designs, free of imperfections and undamaged by the elements or predators, could bring a moment of pure delight. But we are often unseeing, as our minds are occupied with other thoughts and concerns, blinding us to the surrounding beauty. Or perhaps we are simply moving too quickly to appreciate these treasures. 

The same holds true as we walk along the path of life. There are often simple joys that we overlook, blessings that could be treasured and stored in our memories: the kind words of a stranger passing by, the driver who let us cut into his lane, the refreshing breeze on a warm day, the beauty of the turquoise sea, or the qualities of friends that enrich our lives. We will miss so much if we fail to stop and take note. King David must have realized the importance of recognizing such gifts as he prayed, “Bless the LORD, my soul, And do not forget any of His benefits” (Psalm 102:3 NASB). It may be time to slow down and look around for the treasures buried in the sand.
