Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers. –Psalms 1:1 ESV
Red Tide…
Red tide is a harmful algal bloom that impacts the beaches along Florida’s Gulf Coast. Beachgoers know to stay away when this toxin is present to avoid respiratory problems. We, as Christians, may at times find ourselves in unhealthy “red tide” situations, dealing with toxic people. Such individuals may be negative, judgmental, dishonest, or selfish. Associations that impact our Christian walk, health, or life may require us to step away. The Apostle Paul explains, “For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, slanderers, … malicious gossips, without self-control,…treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,… avoid such people as these” (2 Timothy 3:2-5 NASB). And in John 8:59, Jesus, Himself walked away from a group who intended to physically harm him. But whether we choose to stay or leave, Jesus is clear regarding our treatment of others, explaining in Matthew 5:44-45 (NIV), “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven...”
Ask the Lord for discernment in recognizing and dealing with toxic relationships in your life.
Ask the Lord to give you His strength to love the unlovable.
