Lessons from the Beach – Part Three

The Sea Breeze…

Walking along one of the gulf beaches on a summer day is enjoyable due to the sea breeze. As the sun shines, the land heats up faster than the water. Since warm air is lighter, it rises, and the cooler air moves in to take its place, creating this refreshing breeze on the shore. But wind has much more value than merely the comfort it provides; it is an important source of power for windmills, sailboats, and turbines.

Our Lord offers us a supernatural source of power—the Holy Spirit. His Spirit does not only refresh our souls; the Spirit empowers us to do what we could not do on our own. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8 NIV). As we let go of our self-centered thoughts and motives, the Lord can fill us with His Holy Spirit, empowering us with the means to be lights in the world and to live in ways that glorify Him.
