Lessons From The Beach - Part Two

…the way is easy that leads to destruction… -Matthew 7:13 ESV

Rip Currents…

At the beach, signs are posted warning swimmers about the dangers of rip currents. These deceptively calm streams of water can be very strong, pulling even the strongest swimmers far away from the shore. Wise beachgoers know to swim near lifeguards, to proceed with caution in the ocean, and to be leery of smooth areas in the sea between the breaking waves.

An addiction, whether related to a substance or a behavior, can be like a rip current. If you recognize the pull early enough, you may be able to veer away until you are safely out of its grip. It is important to avoid these seemingly calm waters between the turbulent waves, where rip currents reside. Jesus, our ultimate lifeguard, warns in Matthew 7:13 (MSG), “…The way to life—to God… requires total attention.” So, be vigilant. And while it may be easier to follow the crowd and participate in certain earthly pleasures, many of these paths lead to destruction. The best advice is to stay near the divine lifeguard who can warn you of dangers and rescue you if needed.

prayer focuses

Lord, help me to stay on the path of righteousness as I move through the day.

Lord, thank You for being my ultimate lifeguard.
