…let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.... –Hebrews 12:1-2 NIV
The runner, before setting off on a race, must prepare by training physically, mentally, and emotionally, setting the goal of running toward the finish line and winning.
We, as believers and followers of Christ, are in a race. And like race participants, we must train our bodies, spirits, and souls. This is done through fasting, praying, and staying in both the Word and in the Lord’s presence. We each also need to set a goal— “to fight the good fight” (1 Timothy 1:18 NASB). The Apostle Paul encourages us further in Hebrews 12:1 (NIV): “…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles…”
So dear friends, let us not focus on petty issues and differences. Let us fix our gaze on the beautiful face of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. We must run the race and not stop running until we see the face of Jesus.
Holy Spirit, give me the spiritual stamina, strength, and resilience to press on to run the race and win.
Help me, Lord, not to lose my focus on You and to maintain eye contact with You in this race.
