The Lord your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little. You will not be allowed to eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals will multiply around you. –Deuteronomy 7:22-23 NIV
We have all been there—overwhelmed by a seemingly insurmountable problem. Maybe it was the result of our own sin and past choices, and now we are left trying to untangle a web of chaos. Or maybe we are overwhelmed by a series of complicated steps necessary to achieve a goal that seems so far away. In Deuteronomy 7:22-23, Moses addressed the nation of Israel as they got ready to face a series of battles in order to enter the Promised Land. He told them that the Lord would give them the land little by little and not all at once.
Just as Moses explained to the Israelites, God often helps us overcome challenges little by little—not with a single decisive action. He does this for our own good as He sees the past, present, and future. We can trust Him to protect us and guide us in untangling each problem, overcoming each challenge, and achieving each goal in His perfect timing—which is often little by little.
Lord, help me trust that You are in control and that Your plans for me are good.
Lord, give me wisdom and patience to act in Your timing.
