Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? –Matthew 7:3 NASB

Have you ever been making dinner, thrown an empty package into the trash, and then had to retrieve it because you’d forgotten to check how long to cook the food? So you dig the package out of the trash only to realize that the directions are written in “mice type,” and you can’t read it. Your reading glasses are nowhere to be found, so you pull a magnifying glass out of the kitchen drawer to read it. Eureka, success! What you magnify you get more of, right? Wouldn’t that also be true in our relationships? If we’re constantly magnifying what’s wrong, won’t we get more of the same? What if instead of magnifying our needs and unfulfilled feelings, we meet someone else’s needs? What if we remove the beam in our own eye before magnifying the speck in someone else’s?The line, “You complete me,” sounded good in the movie Jerry McGuire, but it’s a lie. No one can complete us, for only God can fill that void. Two broken halves do not make a whole; but at the same time, two healed halves cannot be broken. What are you magnifying? What do you want more of? Magnify the Lord, magnify His goodness, and magnify the life you want.

prayer focuses

Is there a log in your eye blocking the view? Let the Father remove it; He will.

Ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom to see where your focus needs to be.
