But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. –Psalm 1:2 NLT
Throughout the Psalms you are instructed to “meditate” on God’s Word, meaning to think on contemplatively, to consider or ponder. If it’s not been your practice, try it today. Read Psalm 1. Write it down and carry it with you. Take time throughout the day, as often as you can, to find a corner by yourself and clear your mind. Take a deep breath—no need for a Yoga pose or strange chanting melody—and reread the Psalm. Let each word sink in as you make a conscious effort to “hear” it. Let it play over and over as you fix your eyes on Jesus and ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten you. “Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly. For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction” (Psalm 1:1-6 NLT).
Ask the Spirit to open your understanding to the words in Psalm 1.
Thank God that as you meditate on His Word, you, too will produce fruit.
