My Time With Dad

Oh God, You are my God; early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. –Psalm 63:1 NKJV

Have you ever missed a loved one so much that your flesh just ached with longing to be near him or her again? How about your heavenly Father? Do you long for Him?

We all have busy lives with work, family, or perhaps a ministry at church. We get so overwhelmed and busy during our days that we forget to set aside quality time to be with our Abba, our heavenly “Dad.” Without the Lord’s presence, we become barren. Our souls begin to suffer. It is then that we start to ache and thirst for the presence of God. And so it is vital to reserve time each day to spend with our heavenly Dad.

Our Father longs for His children to enter into His presence. Isaiah 30:18 (NIV) explains, “The Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore, he will rise up to show you compassion.” As we draw from the living water (John 4:10), He will quench our thirst. Psalm 92:1-2 (NKJV) says, “It is good to give thanks to (You) Lord…to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning and Your faithfulness at night.” Let’s stay focused on the One who gave us life and make it a priority to spend quality time with our heavenly Dad each day.

prayer focuses

My Father in Heaven, forgive me for the days that I have not set aside time to be with You. Help me to be more mindful of this.

Holy Spirit, please grab ahold of my mind and my heart and help me to stay focused on You.
