No Situation Is Beyond Hope

Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” –John 11:32 ESV

Mary and Martha were disappointed and hurt. They thought Jesus had let them down. They knew Jesus loved Lazarus and could have healed him, so why didn’t Jesus come sooner? Why didn’t He answer their prayers? If Mary and Martha were to make a list of what they knew about Jesus, one item would be: “He has the power to heal the sick.” But Jesus could do much more, and He was about to expand their list. When Jesus speaks and raises Lazarus from the dead, the sisters and the spectators learn that Jesus not only has power over sickness, but He also has power over death. They learn Jesus is worth trusting, even in the most hopeless situations. Jesus didn’t let them down at all; instead, He revealed His power in a way that exceeded their expectations. If Jesus had come according to their time frame, this amazing miracle couldn’t have happened. You may be facing an impossible situation. You may have put all your trust in God only to feel disappointed and confused. Continue clinging to His promises and His character. Jesus is worthy of your trust—and He is always worth the wait.
