Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” –Matthew 16:24 ESV
Living a Christian life isn't for sissies. Sometimes it requires letting go of a relationship your heart is set on keeping because the other person is causing you to stumble in your walk with God. Sometimes it means having to say no to something really, really good because you’re sure God has something better in store. Sometimes it means giving your time or money or energy to someone or something when you’d rather spend it a different way.It often means waiting because you’ve done all you can and there’s nothing left to do but wait on God. And God is never in a hurry. Being a Christian involves an awful lot of waiting. But just think of your reward at the end of all that giving, surrendering, and waiting. Not just streets paved with gold. Not just an eternal seat at the table in your Father’s house. Yes, those things—and this: Picture your Lord and Savior looking you in the eye and saying, gently and lovingly, “Well done, My good and faithful servant. Welcome home.”
Ask the Holy Spirit for strength and courage to do God’s will even when it’s not what you want to do.
Pray for God’s unfathomable peace in the waiting.
