And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. –Luke 2:7 NKJV
Fear and frustration mounting, Joseph ran door to door carrying Mary who was about to deliver God’s Son. The hour upon them, the need urgent, and the pain almost unbearable, Mary held on, clinging to the promise that God had a plan for them and for this Child about to be born. Most children—young and old—wait impatiently for Christmas to arrive. With ever-increasing anticipation, they can hardly wait till Christmas morn, which ushers in family, fun, and feasts. But what about those who are struggling to keep a roof over the family’s head and put food on the table? What do they have to look forward to this Christmas? The answer is the same for all: miracles, hope, and new life. Jesus did not come to give you presents, but to give you His presence. The excitement and usefulness of Christmas presents last weeks, days, or hours only. But the excitement and fulfillment that comes from being in God’s presence increase exponentially over time. Relationship, love, hope, and life are the reasons this Baby was born—the reason Mary struggled through birth and Joseph searched to find a suitable place for the King. This Christmas, as you are enjoying good times, good company, and good food, be sure to invite the Savior to be present in your celebrations and in your heart.
Thank God for the relationship you have with Him through Jesus.
Pray for those who are struggling this Christmas season.
