Nothing to Stand On

It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you. –1 Peter 2:15 NLT

Has someone ever accused you of something that was completely and utterly not true? As children of God, we should be living our lives in such a way that any “foolish accusations” have no grounding in truth or reality. Achieving this is no easier today than in biblical times. As Isaiah pointed out: “Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Yes, truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked” (Isaiah 59:14-15 NLT). God calls us to something so much greater than mediocrity. He calls us to be set apart so that the lost and broken around us can be drawn to Him because of the way we are living our lives.

In its most basic form, Peter was talking about living a life of integrity—not acting like the sinful people of the world. “Let God change your life. First of all, let Him give you a new mind. Then you will know what God wants you to do. And the things you do will be good and pleasing and perfect” (Romans 12:2 NLV). Peter’s challenge to us as followers of Jesus is to make on-purpose decisions in every moment of each day to live for Christ. Choose today to live differently so that when anyone tries to accuse you or challenge your character, they will have nothing to stand on.
