Oh, What a Tangled Web

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other You cannot serve God and wealth. –Matthew 6:24 NASB

Today’s culture says we can have it all. No “toy” or pleasure is beyond our reach. If we can’t afford it, charge it—that makes it free, right? It’s the American way. Want more, buy more, throw more away, and then buy some more. Oh, what a tangled web we weave. Do your finances and your spiritual walk really have anything to do with one another? Consider that other than the Kingdom of God, money and provision is mentioned more in the Bible than any other subject. Eleven of the thirty-nine parables are about money. That says something! The web of “more” is deceivingly beautiful, tempting and inviting as it sparkles like a diamond in the sunlight. One touch leaves you stuck; then slowly, with almost every move you find yourself more entangled. Determine to live within your means, debt free, so when the Holy Spirit says, “Give here,” or “Be My hands over there,” you can jump up and say, “Yes, Lord!”

prayer focuses

Thank God for the finances He has given you.

Ask Him to show you where you may be serving two masters and to give you the desire to serve only Him.
