Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. –1 Corinthians 13:4-5 NIV
Is anyone in need of a spiritual heart transplant? As heirs of Christ, we’re recipients of God’s loving heart. God can replace our stony, impenetrable hearts with ones that are spiritually alive. In Ezekiel 36:26 (NIV), the Lord promises, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” He can breathe new life into our hearts so that we can receive and extend His love. God’s agape love is not a notion, nor is it demonstrated with mere words. His love is compassion in action, and it never runs dry!
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 can be used to test the condition of your heart and indicate if you are walking in God’s love. In the following verses, insert your name in the blank in lieu of the word “love.”
(_____) is patient and kind. (_____) is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. (_____) does not demand (_____’s) own way. (_____) is not irritable, and (_____) keeps no record of when (_____) has been wronged. (_____) is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. (_____) never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
Let God speak to your heart…Then, walk in God’s love.
Lord, search my heart and make known to me areas of my walk that are not reflecting Your love. Fill me with Your love in every area of my life.
Holy Spirit, help me be a minister of Your love. Show me ways that I can share the spiritual fruit of love.
