In everything that he undertook in the service of God’s temple and in obedience to the law and the commands, he [Hezekiah] sought his God and worked wholeheartedly. And so he prospered. –2 Chronicles 31:21 NIV
Hezekiah didn’t wake up seeking prosperity; he woke simply seeking to please God. Jesus assures us throughout His teachings that He will prosper us and take care of us as we seek Him first. As Jesus taught us to pray, “… Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:9-10 NKJV), we begin with honoring Him and seeking His will, not our own.
Each day when we wake up, we should be praising God as we rise out of bed. As we start the day, we should be asking Jesus to use us as His ambassadors and vessels to accomplish what He wants throughout the day, instead of merely asking Him to bless our plans.
As we go to bed, we should thank Him for the day and for who He is. As you do that, you will lay your head on your pillow each night in peace and thankfulness, no matter what is going on in your world.
As you pray, begin by thoughtfully thanking God for who He is.
Ask Him to help you follow Hezekiah’s example of seeking to please God.
